LOL — Laughing Out Lonely
LOL - Laughing Out Lonely gives the faceless existence of life on the internet a voice in this solo opera by the award-winning composer team Matilde Böcher and Asger Kudahl. LOL is written for the acclaimed countertenor Morten Grove Frandsen, who amazes with the embodiment of a myriad of outsiders in a thoroughly dramatic universe, that takes the audience into the darkest corners of the Internet, where misogynists, self-harmers, racists, and other marginalized existences have found a hidden community.
Created using English lyrics that are based on posts from young people on social media and staged as a theatrical echo chamber where the audience is part of the setting, LOL is a compelling work that is relevant for audiences of all ages.
LOL premiered in the summer of 2023 to rave reviews and was nominated for the prominent Danish award The Reumert Award. The performance has played for full houses around Denmark and will in 2026 go on tour to New York, Toronto, Montreal, Quebec, Edinburgh, Iceland and Sweden. With collapsible setting and mobile technical equipment, LOL is easy to move and adjust to different venues.
LOL is created by: Matilde Böcher, Asger Kudahl, Astrid Hansen Holm, Jeppe Lawaetz, Roe Ørslev, Josefine Else Larsen, Morten Grove Frandsen & Louise Beck, with the help of: Zitta de fries, Louise Schrøder, Sven August Buse & Anders Toft Pedersen.
